Capacity Building

The World-Wide Academy is organising a series of technical webinars addressing some of the challenges Aids to Navigation Service Providers are facing. Each session will include one or more lectures relating to the webinar topic delivered by experts from the IALA family. Participants will be given an opportunity to ask questions and discuss topics at hand.

AtoN Maintenance – Reducing total cost of ownership on Thursday 25 February 2021 at 20:00 UTC.

Francesca Pradelli, Regional Safety Navigation Adviser (Ag) in the Ocean and Maritime Programme of the Pacific Community (SPC).

Salesh Kumar, Hydrography and Aids to Navigation Officer at the Pacific Community.

They will give a presentation on AtoN maintenance.

Patrick Wamahe, Aids to Navigation Manager in the Solomon Islands Maritime Authority, will present a local case on good practise maintenance in the Solomon Islands.
Adam Hay, Director and Founder at M-NAV Solutions, will present a practical advice on how to reduce the total cost of ownership.

 

AtoN Light Characters – Selecting a suitable light character on Thursday 11 February 2021 at 07:00 UTC.

Malcolm Nicholson is the Global Product Manager for Sealite and is responsible for the full portfolio of Marine Products. He is also key to educating AtoN Managers through Sealite’s Global Masterclasses and Technical Training Programs.

Malcolm has been attending IALA for nearly 20 years and for the last 8 years he has been Chairman of the ENG Committee Working Group on Lights and Vision, and is the IMC Rep to IALA PAP.

Malcolm is a registered IALA World Wide Academy Expert and also keeps up his interest with the Commission Internationale d’Eclairage (CIE) on lighting matters.

He will give a presentation on Light characters and rhythms.

 

Buoy Moorings  – Results of recent buoy mooring trials in Belize waters on Thursday 28 January 2021 at 16:00 UTC.
 
Mr Alfred John Naingie, captain of the multipurpose vessel Marwina, Maritime Authority of Surinam, will give a presentation on buoy moorings.
Mr Michael Jenkins, Safety and Security Manager, Belize Port Authority, will give a presentation on buoy moorings in Belize waters.

AtoN Remote Monitoring – Effective performance monitoring during COVID-19 and after on Thursday 14 January 2021 at 09:00 UTC.

 

Mr Simon Millyard, Trinity House, will give a lecture on Remote Monitoring of AtoN.

Mahdi Al-Mosawi, General Manager, Middle East Navigation Aids Services will give a presentation on MENAS AtoN Monitoring Practice.
